Black Eagles top Super Lig standings after away win


Turkey’s Spor Toto Super Lig title contenders Besiktas topped the league Friday after trouncing Teleset Mobilya Akhisarspor 3-0 in an away match.

Dutch forward Ryan Babel scored twice in the third and 47th minute while Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo put the ball into Akhisarspor’s net in the 20th minute of play.

Besiktas are now the Super Lig leaders with 59 points in the standings. The Black Eagles have five league matches to go.

The other title contender, Medipol Basaksehir, is now in second spot, also with 59 points.

Medipol Basaksehir will be hosted by Galatasaray on April 15 at Turk Telekom Stadium, Galatasaray’s home turf, in a key match for both teams.

Galatasaray, which have collected 57 points in 28 weeks, are third in the league table.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce will face Sivasspor in an away match Saturday. The Yellow Canaries are aiming for victory to hold on to the title race since they are in fourth spot with 54 points.
